Ruaha National Park is located in the central, just west of lringa highlands.
Its is the world's most outstanding wildlife, landscape and culture location, together with luxury vacation in fascinating Tanzania. More than 400 birds species have been recorded. Its geographical location means that it is visited by both northern and southern migrants. Ruaha also has a great variety of resident species due to the diversity of habitats in this transition zone. January and April is best time for keen bird watchers.
Ruaha is the only park to have both greater and lesser kudu, roan antelope are often seen in the Rift Valley section of the park and sable antelopes inhabit the more wooded part of the park. Elephants are found throughout the park, wild dogs are quite frequently seen by visitors. The Great Ruaha river which flows through the Rift Valley makes home to large number of crocodiles and hippos and more than 38 species of fish have been identified in the Great Ruaha river.
It was established in 1910 as part of the Saba Game Reserve and was gazetted as a national park in 1964, approximately 45 000 sq km.
Ruaha National Park is interesting as it represents a transition zone where eastern and southern Africa species of fauna and flora overlap. Miombo woodland with its attendant fauna is common in central Africa but not found further north in Tanzania.
